VisionRx permits DMVs to computerize the vision test function, thereby
enabling them to automate the entire licensure process and migrate it onto the
Internet. This allows DMVs to provide their services in a variety of settings,
including at the DMV office, at satellite or independent locations, or even at
home.
Computerized eye tests also reduce overall system costs, provide
unprecedented convenience to the DMV's constituents, reduce errors in
transcription and facilitate data storage and retrieval. Although a number of
states already have moved portions of their licensure process to the Internet,
the key factor limiting states from providing all functions online has been the
inability to perform eye tests.
VisionRx's tests designed specifically for DMVs include:
Visual Acuity Tests
Tests the driver's ability to see straight-ahead (central vision).
A variety of VisionRx tests can assess monocular and binocular, near and distance,
aided and unaided visual acuities. |

 |
Contrast Sensitivity Tests
Tests the driver's ability to discern objects under a variety of lighting conditions (e.g.,
dusk, night driving and glare conditions). |
Visual Field Tests
Tests the driver's broader field of vision. Identifies vision problems
even when central (straight-ahead) vision appears normal (i.e., peripheral or side vision). |
 |
 |
Color Vision Tests
Tests the driver's ability to perceive color and to differentiate specific colors
and shades of color (e.g., traffic signals and signage). |
